The Credit Underwriter analyzes and underwrites loan facilities for the Commercial Loan and Commercial Real Estate departments.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Prepares a full credit package for loan requests which required more advanced underwriting skills such as new customer relationships, large exposure relationships, criticized loans and loans characterized as being more complex in nature.
Works independently and completes underwriting packages within required time frames with minimal edits required.
Prepares high quality credit analysis which meet underwriting standards.
Assists and/or completes large exposure global reviews in conjunction with the Senior Credit Underwriter and/or Team Leader.
Serves as mentor to junior credit underwriters on the team.
Conducts a credit analysis identifying key credit issues and providing mitigation of same.
Spreads business financial statements using the Baker Hill/One Point system.
Analyzes a company's operating performance and financial condition to understand business trends and to identify credit risks.
Conducts cash flow analysis (business, personal and global) to evaluate the borrower's loan repayment ability.
Spreads and analyzes personal financial statements to evaluate personal liquidity, personal debt levels and contingencies.
Assesses the bank's collateral coverage by reviewing of accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventory aging reports.
Performs industry/market analysis to identify industry trends and risks.
Prepares loan offering and related forms for the credit package.
Identifies policy exceptions and incorporates suitable mitigants into the credit package.
Proactively communicates with Loan Officers and Senior Credit Underwriter/Team Leader during the underwriting process.
Participates in client meetings/conference calls.
Required Skills:
Knowledge of commercial credit and fine credit quality skills including accounting, financial statement analysis and cash flow analysis experience.
Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills: express ideas and convey technical information in writing and verbally.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and performing internet searches.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and move quickly through assignments to ensure deadlines are met.
Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups to manage internal and external customer relationships.
Thorough understanding of risk and consequences of errors in formulating decisions and providing direction to others.
Required
Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in underwriting commercial loan and/or commercial real estate transactions, or one year of VNB credit underwriting experience combined with the completion of formal credit training (VNB's Credit Underwriting Training Program or equivalent).
Bachelors Degree with a minimum of three years experience in underwriting commercial loan and/or commercial real estate transactions, or one year of VNB credit underwriting experience combined with the completion of formal credit training (VNB's Credit Underwriting Training Program or equivalent) preferred.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
